Mineral Rockwool growing Plug,Cubes,Blocks & Slabs FAQ
Q1. Heavy metal content in rock wool?
A1: Rock wool contains no harmful heavy metals. It is manufactured by high-temperature at above 1500℃melting of a mixture of diabase, lime and coke, followed by fibre formation and curing to achieve a specific density, serving as a growing medium for hydroponic agriculture.
Q2. Is rock wool carcinogenic?
A2: No. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) conducted carcinogenicity testing on rock wool(2022)1, concluding it belongs to Group 3 materials: meaning it is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans, not carcinogenic to humans.

Q3. What are the composition and raw materials of rock wool?
A3: Raw materials comprise: diabase、lime、coke, etc. Composition: Its primary chemical constituents are silica dioxide, calcium oxide, aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide, sodium oxide, potassium oxide, manganese oxide, titanium oxide, etc.
Q4. What are the advantages of rock wool over other substrates like coconut husk and peat?
A4:
(1) Processed from natural minerals at high temperatures, free from pests and diseases.
(2) Over 93% porosity ensures uniform water and air distribution, promoting plants’ root growth.
(3) Water Absorption capacity exceeds 900%, offering excellent water and nutrient retention.
(4) Inorganic inert substrate releases no chemicals, facilitating precise pH and EC control.
(5) Nutrient solutions penetrate directly to root systems via rockwool, enhancing fertiliser and water utilization.
(6) Free from toxic substances, environmentally friendly, and readily recyclable.
Q5. What crops are suitable for growing in rockwool?
A5: Vegetables, flowers and foliage plants can all be cultivated.
Q6. What precautions should be taken when growing in rockwool?
A6: Prior to planting, soak the rockwool in diluted nutrient solution for 24 hours. As rockwool itself contains no nutrients, diluted nutrient solution must be applied with each watering (dilution ratio per user's instructions).
